Stop Telemarketers

While this doesn't deal with saving money or explaining your phone bill, it does deal with stopping telemarketers cold before your dinner is!

Lets face it, every one of us has sat down to eat and then the phone rings and it's a telemarketer! They say it will only take a minute but it's a minute that you don't want to waist. So why not get off the lists and enjoy your evenings a little more? It's not as hard to do as you may think.

The first way to help stop the calls is to get on the National Do Not Call List. You can do this by simply registering at https://www.donotcall.gov.

Another way to help stop the calls is to contact The Direct Marketing Association (DMA), a non-profit trade association for direct mail and telemarketing companies. The DMA has setup a free "do not call" and "do not send me junk mail" service. They want to generate goodwill among consumers in the industry.

All you need to do is register. It's a simple process. Just send your name(s), home address, home number and signature in a letter or postcard to:

Telephone Preference Service
Direct Marketing Association
PO Box 9014
Farmingdale, NY 11735-9014

If you would like all the junk mail to stop send the same information to:

Mail Preference Service
Direct Marketing Association
PO Box 9008
Farmingdale, NY 11735-9008

Once you have registered with the DMA, your information will be sent to all their members. It will take up to six months for the member companies to remove you from their calling and mailing lists.

Also note, you must send two letters to be taken off both lists and they only accept letters and postcards.

Please remember that registering with the National Do Not Call List and the DMA will not stop all calls and mailings but if you receive calls, simply ask to be placed on there "do not call" list.
